Hi! And welcome to glowtritionist! I’m Karen, the recipe creator, nutrition nerd and glow chaser behind the blog.

Here’s the deal: I love food. Like, real food—comforting, nostalgic, and totally satisfying. But I also believe that what we eat changes how we feel. So I’m constantly chasing that sweet spot where flavor, joy, and nutrition all live happily ever after on the same plate.
Glowtritionist was born out of real life. Not from a $50 protein powder habit or a spotless Pinterest pantry filled with collagen gummies. Nope. This blog grew from a place of wanting to feel better without burning out, going broke, or swearing off carbs.

My version of wellness isn’t extreme. It’s not about cutting out everything fun or chasing the next expensive health trend. It’s about adding in the good stuff—more veggies, more whole foods, more “oh wow, that’s actually good for me?” meals—and still leaving room for dessert.
My Journey into Nutrition
There was a time when I just felt… off. Tired. Achey. Foggy. Meh in my clothes. I didn’t feel like myself, and I definitely didn’t feel like I was thriving. Then my Dad was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. Losing him changed everything for me.
I started thinking hard about how we live, what we eat, and how we can support our bodies for the long haul—not in a fear-based, doomsday way, but in a how can I help myself feel stronger, longer? way.

I went full nutrition nerd, researching what cherries do for inflammation, how magnesium keeps you sane, and why your skin might just love sweet potatoes more than your fancy face cream. Instead of buying the latest fix-it serum, I wanted to understand what my body was missing—like, which vitamins and minerals was I low on? Our bodies are smart. They have a way of telling us when things are off. I wasn’t chasing perfection. I was chasing understanding.
I started eating more whole foods and everything began to shift. The cravings for the ultra-processed junk started to fade. I had more energy. I felt clearer, lighter, stronger. Sure, I still eat pizza and drink wine with friends. But I live by that 80/20 rule: nourish most of the time, indulge with zero guilt the rest of it. Because food is love. It’s comfort. It’s connection. It’s not something to fear or fight with—it’s something to enjoy.
What you’ll find here
Glowtritionist is not a diet blog. It’s not a “buy this $80 cleanse” kind of blog. It’s a feel better without losing your mind kind of blog. It’s your guide to glowing from the inside out.
Around here, you’ll find simple, healthy-ish recipes made with real ingredients you can pronounce, afford, and actually find in your regular old grocery store, plus wellness and nutrition tips.
How I Roll in the Kitchen
- My husband has celiac disease, so all my recipes are 100% gluten-free.
- No seed oils.
- I’m not afraid of healthy fats. Bring on the avocados, olive oil, grass-fed butter and heavy cream, pasture-raised meat, and golden-yolked eggs.
- Whole food equals one ingredient.
- I’m all about frozen fruits and veggies and canned beans.
- Mostly homemade > store-bought.
- I still eat sweets, but I reach for unrefined sweeteners like honey and maple syrup.
- I still eat carbs: think whole grains and root veggies.
- I’m into meal planning, meal prepping, and fast dinners because real life is busy.
- Progress not perfection.
- Simple ingredients. Real food. Big flavor. That’s the vibe around here.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I share your recipes on my site? Links to the full recipe? Yes. But please do not copy the full recipe and paste it on your site. Share the link and send folks my way. These recipes take time (and dishes… so many dishes), and I appreciate the credit.
- Can I use your photos? If you are sharing one of my recipes within a roundup and with a direct link to my full recipe, then you may share one photo along with the link. I take all the photos myself and while I’m no pro, I do put effort into making them look half decent. If you want to use more than one, just reach out and we’ll chat.
- Do you work with brands or do sponsored content? Yep, I do! If it’s a good fit, I’m all ears. Contact me using the form below.
